Barnsia at Skellefteå Museum is a great place for children up to 6 years old to explore local history and the roles of agriculture, forests and mines.

Visit Skellefteå Museum and their exhibitions Barnsia and Storsia. Storsia is an exhibition that takes you on a journey through the local history of Skellefteå, Norsjö and Malå – from 10,500 BCE to the year 2020 AD. Barnsia is a play-and-learn environment for children from newborn to six years old. It’s a place where they can explore our local history and the roles of agriculture, forests and mines. It’s difficult to express the magic of a place like Skellefteå Museum for kids and adults like. Just go!

Enjoy the slopes

Nothing beats a sunny day out on the slopes. Go cross-country skiing, try sledding or even ride the slopes on a snowboard. There are ski tracks and slopes all around the municipality. If you don’t own any equipment, don’t worry – you can rent skis locally at hyras.se, or visit Fritidsbanken at Nordanå and see what winter gear they have available to borrow for free!

Who doesn’t love a trip to the swimming pool?

Who doesn’t love a trip to the swimming pool? Luckily, there are several pools all around the municipality – Burträsk, Lövånger, Byske and Boliden to name but a few. So hopefully you won’t have to travel far for a visit. Find the pool (badhus) closest to you and go as a family and enjoy the pools. There is no need to wait for summer to have fun in the water; just visit a bathhouse and get splashing and diving and jumping.

Vitberget

Two kilometers from the city center you’ll find Vitberget, an outdoor area for those who love nature. Here you’ll find both a big slope and a children’s slope, a winter walk through the woods, cross-country skiing tracks, two obstacle courses (one for adults and kids over 12 years old, and one for kids younger than 12) and much more. Explore everything that this mountain in the middle of Skellefteå has to offer.

A day at Skellefteå Adventure park is what you make of it – a fun activity for the whole family or an adrenaline-filled day that really lets you push your boundaries. The obstacle course in the trees, also called ‘high ropes courses’, is a fun combination of game and adventure. It is an activity that gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself on your own terms. They are open everyday, but you need to book via email first.

Take your pick from the many shelters and fire pits for a spot of outdoor grilling.

Outdoor grilling

A warm cup of coffee, grilled sausages or just a moment to enjoy the outdoors by the fire. There are several shelters and fire pits all around the municipality that are free for all to use. Some of these places have firewood delivered, either by the municipality or by associations, for use by those of you who want to light a fire. However, if you want to be on the safe side it can be good to bring your own firewood, as there is no guarantee that there will be any firewood left.
