Solar Egg was created by artist duo Bigert & Bergström for Riksbyggen in April 2017 as a gift to the town of Kiruna. The golden egg sauna has since won the hearts of visitors and design award juries around the globe. It has won Red Dot awards and German Design Awards as well as being nominated in the London International Awards and the Swedish Design Awards. The outside, made of stainless golden mirror, reflects the natural environment, while the inside still functions as a normal sauna, with a wood-heated, anatomically correct, heart-shaped stove to keep the room nice and humid. It really does look eggcellent (sorry). In Skellefteå, the egg is on the rooftop of Sara kulturhus to celebrate Bigert & Bergström’s new exhibition The Broken Greenhouse. Its interior offers a perfect place for sauna chats about a sustainable future in northern Sweden.
